Etsy product photo watermark size and placement guide

For a corner logo, begin around 10–14% of the final image width, 50–70% opacity and 4–6% inward from the edges. Keep the first listing photo restrained, then preview Etsy's square, portrait and landscape crops. These are test settings, not Etsy requirements.

The size question is really a crop question

A watermark that looks balanced on a full 2000-pixel image can disappear when the same photo becomes a small search thumbnail. Etsy's current image guide recommends listing photos at least 2000 pixels in both dimensions and asks sellers to preview square, portrait and landscape thumbnail crops. It does not prescribe a watermark percentage. The useful number is therefore a repeatable starting point, followed by a crop check in the actual listing editor.

Practical starting points

These are editorial test settings, not Etsy requirements. Percentages refer to the final resized image.

Pick the quiet corner, not the same corner at any cost

Bottom-right is a familiar default, but it is not automatically correct. A pale ceramic product on a pale background may make a white mark disappear, while a dark mark can pull attention away from the item. Look for a relatively even patch of background, keep the mark away from the product silhouette, and use the same visual distance from the edge across the batch. If the backgrounds change a lot, a text shadow, outline or a restrained tiled mark is more reliable than forcing one color into every photo.

Treat the first listing photo differently

Set the output size before you tune the watermark

Watermark measurements only make sense after the photo has its export dimensions. BatchMint resizes first and composites the watermark afterward, so choose the intended output width, process one representative light image and one dark image, then adjust logo percentage, text size, opacity and margin. For a 2000-pixel-wide export, a 12% logo begins around 240 pixels wide; it is a starting point, not a rule for every logo shape.

A watermark identifies a source; it does not lock the image

A visible mark can discourage casual reuse and tell a viewer where an image came from. It can also be cropped, retouched or covered, and an oversized mark can make a legitimate buyer less confident about the product. Keep original files and creation records, and use Etsy's reporting process when necessary. This guide is a layout recommendation, not copyright or legal advice.

FAQ

What is a sensible logo watermark size for a 2000-pixel Etsy photo?

For a corner logo, test roughly 10–14% of the image width, or about 200–280 pixels on a 2000-pixel export. Logo shape and whitespace matter, so judge the visible mark rather than its file canvas alone.

Should the watermark go in the center?

Usually not on the first listing image because it can cover the product at thumbnail size. A low-opacity centered mark can suit selected supporting images when attribution is more important than an unobstructed detail view.

Does Etsy require product-photo watermarks?

The cited Etsy image guide does not require a watermark or prescribe its dimensions. The percentages in this article are test settings, not Etsy rules.
